Schaeffler Diagram Calculator (Cr and Ni equivalent)
The Schaeffler-DeLong diagram can be used to predict the microstructure of a stainless steel or of a welded joint from its chemical composition. Phase formation naturally also depends on the heat treatment applied, so treat these results as as-cast, with no treatment applied.
Since chromium is the main ferrite stabiliser and nickel the main austenite stabiliser, the formulas for predicting that balance are:
Nieq = %Ni + 30 x (%C + %N) + 0.5 x (%Mn + %Cu + %Co)
Creq = %Cr + 1.5 x %Si + %Mo
